Avatar: The Way of Water is doing extremely well at the box office in India and worldwide. It is also inching closer to the $2 billion-mark globally. In India, the film has seen a dip but it continues doing good business in the South. Meanwhile, Avatar 2 is now the No. 10 biggest movie ever globally. In Europe, Avatar 2 is the highest-grosser of the Covid-19 pandemic era, having passed Spider-Man: No Way Home. It is also the number five release of all time for the region.

Avatar: The Way of Water had a great start at the box office in India on December 16 as it earned Rs 40.50 crore. This makes Avatar 2 the second-highest box office opener in the Indian market after Avengers: Endgame which earned Rs 53.10 crore. James Cameron’s film has exceeded $1.5B globally. This means that the film has overtaken Top Gun: Maverick as the No. 1 worldwide release of 2022. It is now the No. 10 biggest movie ever globally.
On January 10, Avatar: The Way of Water successfully completed 26 days in the theatres. The film is still going strong at the worldwide box office. In India, Avatar saw a decline in collection and reportedly did a business of Rs 2 to 4 crore on January 10. It is a huge feat considering the film is still minting money even after 26 days. Avatar 2's total collection in India now stands at Rs 377.40 crore, according to trade reports.
According to Box Office India, "Avatar - The Way Of Water scored a fourth weekend of 16 crore nett plus dropping less than 60% from last week which was a holiday weekend so the trend of the film is still very strong. The business on Saturday and Sunday was very good. The business remains strong in the South with Tamil Nadu leading but the contribution from South will drop as big local films start coming from Wednesday. The collections of the film stand at 355 crore nett which is 12 crore nett less than Avengers Endgame but the GROSS numbers stand at around 458 crore and that is more than Avengers which was 437 croe GROSS."
